Carter, Sr. (D-LA) and local and national climate justice leaders at an Environmental Justice Roundtable hosted at the Greater New Orleans Foundation. The discussion focused on recent harmful Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) decisions—including the termination of federal grant awards and the rollback of critical environmental protections—and how we can continue to push environmental justice forward under the Trump Administration.
Today, Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) is proud to launch the Pro Bono Litigation Corps (PBLC)—a first-of-its-kind initiative mobilizing experienced attorneys to take on some of the most pressing constitutional challenges of our time.
As we commemorate the two-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) today, August 16, there is much to celebrate about this historic legislation. The IRA represents the largest-ever climate investment in our country’s history, creating unprecedented opportunities for clean energy savings.
However, we at L4GG are acutely aware that historically marginalized communities often lack the resources to access the IRA’s historic funding opportunities. In response, we have intensified our efforts over the past two years to ensure that the benefits of the IRA reach those who need them most. See what we’ve been up to!
Not enough people are talking about the water crisis in Jackson, MS. On Tuesday, the Mississippi governor declared a state of emergency for Jackson’s water system, the city’s largest treatment plant. Most of the city’s 150,000 residents are without running water, having to rely on bottled water for drinking, showering, brushing their teeth, and cooking.
We are witnessing what may be the most concerted effort to undermine the legal profession since the McCarthy era. The administration's targeted executive orders against law firms, investigations into diversity policies, attacks on judicial independence, and defiance of court orders represent a direct threat to our constitutional system.
The window for effective action is narrow, and it is now.
Our collective power as legal professionals is immense, but only if we choose to exercise it. Here are four specific ways you can help defend our profession and democracy:

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has announced that he’s opposed to creating a Congressional commission to examine and report the facts and causes relating to the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol.
In advance of the vote in the House of Representatives to advance legislation to create an independent commission, L4GG is calling on Congress to step up and enact the commission.
We’ve created a sign on letter and are asking our community of lawyers and activists to join.
What happened on January 6th was an attack on our democracy and threatens future peaceful transfers of power in our country. We must take this threat seriously.
Every day that our leaders in Congress delay enacting a commission is another day that a substantial portion of the electorate - and even a portion of Congress - denies the truth of what happened that day.
We need Congress to step up and enact the commission. This is bigger than party - this is the future of our country.
Urge Congress to enact a commission.
Tell them that our nation cannot heal without accountability and that we cannot silence those who would speak the truth.
