L4GG Responds to Trump Nominating Todd Blanche as Attorney General

Traci Feit Love, Founder and Executive Director of Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG), issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump formally nominating Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to serve as Attorney General of the United States:

Donald Trump’s nomination of Todd Blanche is one of the clearest tests yet of whether the Justice Department will serve the American people or the president himself.

“No attorney general in modern history has been so compromised or corrupt. He has effectively continued to act as Donald Trump’s personal criminal attorney instead of working to enforce federal law without fear or favor.

“That conflict of interest has already played out under Blanche’s leadership. The Justice Department has pursued investigations of the president’s perceived political adversaries, continued to withhold information in the Epstein Files investigation, and advanced a deeply troubling settlement that seeks to shield Trump, his family, and his businesses from IRS scrutiny, while also proposing a taxpayer-funded compensation scheme for the president’s allies and January 6 rioters.

“The Justice Department is not Donald Trump’s personal law firm. Its legitimacy depends on independence, impartiality, and preserving the Rule of Law. The Senate now must uphold its own constitutional obligation and reject the blatant corruption at the center of Todd Blanche’s nomination. He does not meet the standard to be America’s top justice official, and would only further erode public trust in one of our nation’s most important institutions.”

Lawyers for Good Government Action Fund has launched an attorney sign-on letter opposing Blanche's nomination, citing his rejection of DOJ independence, conflicts of interest, and use of prosecutorial power to advance the president's political interests.

Together with more than 30 organizations, L4GG is a part of the Not Above the Law Coalition’s Block Blanche campaign, calling on the Senate to oppose Todd Blanche’s nomination as Attorney General of the United States.
