Virginia Frontline Legal Advocates: Serve Where the Need is Greatest
A joint program between Virginia Election Protection and Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG)
Legal deserts are real — and this election, we're asking attorneys to show up in the locations that need coverage most.
What is a Legal Advocate?
Legal Advocates serve as trusted eyes and ears at the polls, helping ensure every voter can cast a ballot without obstacles. On a shift, you'll answer voter questions, flag and report problems as they come up, help track information that improves future elections, and help polling sites stay in compliance with election law.
This work sits within the broader Election Protection coalition — a nonpartisan effort stationing monitors across the state and helping staff the national voter assistance hotline, so that no voter is left without support on Election Day.
Why We're Prioritizing Certain Locations
Volunteer attorneys understandably tend to sign up close to home, which leaves real gaps in coverage across the state. We've identified 18 priority polling locations where that gap matters most — some because they're historically underserved or harder to reach, others because they're a genuinely reasonable stretch from major metro areas, and a couple because of a documented history of election-day issues. Train. Watch the required 90-minute training embedded on this page below.
Sign up for your shift. As described on the training, go to protectthevoteva.org, create an account, and sign up for an existing shift on the volunteer opportunities page.
Serve on Election Day. Serve a 4 hour shift (or more than one) on Tuesday, November 3.
