In recognition of the 2025 National Celebration of Pro Bono (October 19–25, 2025), Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) is proud to present its 2025 Pro Bono Partner Awards to three exceptional partners. This year’s honorees exemplify the power of pro bono work to create systemic change and advance justice. Each has demonstrated a profound commitment to impact, partnership, and purpose in service of our mission:

  • Clean Energy Counsel – a long-term partner driving climate justice and environmental law efforts, particularly in Louisiana, as well as transgender rights.

  • Davis Wright Tremaine – a firm championing immigration relief and wetlands protection.

  • Perkins Coie – a firm-wide leader in pro bono with over 2,000 hours (worth $1M+ in 2024 alone) devoted to research and legal support

“This year’s honorees represent the best of what pro bono partnership can achieve. Clean Energy Counsel, Davis Wright Tremaine, and Perkins Coie have each shown how sustained commitment and collaboration can expand justice, protect rights, and drive systemic change. Their dedication reminds us that when lawyers bring their full expertise and compassion to the work, the impact reaches far beyond the courtroom.”
— Lauren Worsek, L4GG’s Director of Pro Bono Initiatives

Clean Energy Counsel: Purpose-Driven Advocacy Rooted in Partnership

Clean Energy Counsel has been a trusted partner of L4GG for more than seven years — bringing deep expertise, unwavering dedication, and a mission-driven approach to every project. While their work in climate justice has made a lasting impact, their commitment extends far beyond a single issue.

From supporting communities in Louisiana, where their work carries a personal connection for the team, to contributing to national efforts that strengthen civil rights, environmental protections, and equity under the law, Clean Energy Counsel’s attorneys embody what it means to integrate purpose with practice.

Their collaboration with L4GG has advanced critical initiatives like the Policy Resource Hub for Transgender Rights and climate and environmental justice projects, each fueled by the belief that good lawyering is about more than legal analysis — it’s about protecting people, communities, and the rule of law itself.

Davis Wright Tremaine: Immigrants’ Rights and Climate Regulation

Davis Wright Tremaine (DWT) has distinguished itself through a wide-ranging pro bono partnership with L4GG, reflecting consistency and integrity across multiple issue areas. Through Project Corazon, DWT attorneys prepared Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applications for Ukrainian nationals and helped asylum seekers secure legal stability and work permits during a time of crisis. The firm’s lawyers have also lent their skills to climate and wetlands protection, dedicating hundreds of pro bono hours to research state-level wetlands regulations after the Supreme Court’s Sackett decision

 – work that guides policymakers in safeguarding water resources. By mobilizing expertise at scale – whether advocating for asylum seekers or analyzing environmental policy – Davis Wright Tremaine demonstrates how a coordinated pro bono effort can advance human rights, environmental justice, and the rule of law in tandem.

Perkins Coie: A Firm-Wide Commitment to Pro Bono Support

Perkins Coie exemplifies what it means to weave public service into the fabric of a firm. In 2024 alone, 113 attorneys from across the firm contributed nearly 2,000 pro bono hours, representing more than $1 million in legal value in support of L4GG’s mission. This tremendous scale of effort – spanning projects that defend democracy, expand access to justice, and protect core civil rights – illustrates the power of a unified firm mission.

Through extensive research, strategic analysis, and consistent engagement, Perkins Coie’s attorneys have helped strengthen the systems that uphold justice and the rule of law. Their partnership reflects a belief that pro bono work is not only about individual cases, but about advancing understanding, integrity, and democratic values across the legal profession.

Perkins Coie’s deep, firm-wide commitment demonstrates the transformative potential of collective expertise. Every hour, every contribution, and every attorney involved reinforces the idea that when the legal community stands together for what’s right, we all move closer to a more just and equitable society.
