Vulnerable migrants in the United States
deserve safety, stability, and the opportunity to work.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a form of immigration relief designated to certain countries by the Department of Homeland Security. Foreign-born individuals from designated countries are unable to return home safely due to conditions preventing their country from adequately handling the return. Some circumstances include ongoing armed conflict, environmental disaster, an epidemic, or other extraordinary and temporary conditions.

L4GG’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS) Pro Bono Program mobilizes pro bono legal assistance to provide individuals from countries who qualify for TPS with legal guidance and help prepare applications for TPS (I-821), employment authorization (I-765), and if applicable, fee waivers (I-912).

Through this initiative, individuals will have completed immigration forms to ensure their safety and ability to work in the U.S. for up to 18 months, and because the filing fees can cost more than $500, many of them will also have their filing fees waived as a result of the program.

Currently, we are serving TPS clients from Ukraine and Afghanistan.

After the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in August 2021, the security situation in the country rapidly deteriorated. The Taliban's return to power has led to widespread fear and uncertainty, with reports of violence, human rights abuses, and restrictions on women's rights. As a result, many Afghans have fled the country.

L4GG’s Pro Bono Project for Afghanistan is working with a limited number of clients at this time, and is currently not accepting new clients.
