When legal needs emerge during crises, L4GG specializes in quickly launching and scaling pro bono projects that mobilize lawyers to help hundreds, sometimes thousands, of individuals in an organized and coordinated effort.

We are experts at pro bono attorney management systems and the delivery of limited scope legal services. We are poised to jump into action during a crisis thanks to supporters of our Rapid Response Pro Bono Fund.

Fund Overview: The Rapid Response Pro Bono Fund supports L4GG activities that build new programs and provide legal assistance during moments of crisis. As of March 2022, the Rapid Response Pro Bono Fund is supporting two L4GG initiatives.

  1. TPS Pro Bono Project for Ukraine: L4GG is mobilizing pro bono legal assistance for Ukrainian nationals to provide legal guidance and help prepare applications for TPS (I-821), employment authorization (I-765), and if applicable, fee waivers (I-912). Once their matters are completed, Ukrainian nationals will have completed immigration forms to ensure their safety and ability to work in the U.S. for up to 18 months, and because the filing fees can cost more than $500, many of them will also have their filing fees waives as a result of the clinic.

  2. Reproductive Health Legal Assistance Project: Partnering with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) is mobilizing attorneys and law students across the country to provide legal guidance to front-line reproductive health care providers. Reproductive health clinicians are forced to make decisions every day with a legal landscape in flux and individual patients in search of essential health care. They need clear, up-to-date legal guidance to understand the shifting landscape and provide evidence-based essential health care to their patients in light of the Dobbs decision and multiplying state-level restrictions on abortion care.

Yes! I want to respond with L4GG in moments of crisis.

The Rapid Response Pro Bono Fund has successfully launched and scaled a number of impactful pro bono programs in recent years, including:

  • Remote Credible Fear Interview (CFI) Clinic: In 2018, we developed and implemented a remote CFI representation project with RAICES, an immigration organization in Texas, to mobilize 200+ lawyers from 41 law firms and provide legal representation to 1,500+ asylum seekers detained at Karnes Detention Center in Texas.

  • Remote I-589s during Remain in Mexico: 2019 we launched and scaled a Remote I-589 clinic that provided pro se asylum application assistance to more than 1,000 asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexican border during the first instance of the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), or Remain in Mexico, policy.

  • COVID-19 Small Business Remote Legal Clinic: In a matter of weeks during March and April 2020, we launched a series of 11 state-based legal consultation clinics to assist microbusinesses and nonprofits navigating the impact of the pandemic, serving more than 2,000 small businesses with legal assistance.
