About the Clinic
Help your community meet its mission - with or without federal funding.
Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG)’s Green and Equitable Communities Clinic (GECC) is designed to provide direct pro bono legal services to communities in need - helping communities effectively carry out their environmental justice mission and move projects forward.
These legal services are tailored to the community’s needs and are absolutely free.
Get Help: Request Legal Services
Your community has the vision; we provide the legal power to protect it and move it forward. Since our launch in early 2023, we have provided free, tailored, non-litigation legal services (i.e. no lawsuits filed before a court) to 15 entities across 13 states and territories, helping communities work toward the realization of projects in solar, climate resilience, water infrastructure, EV vehicles, disaster preparedness, and more.
By partnering with our pro bono network of over 125,000 attorneys across the country, the GECC is able to provide direct legal services across many areas of expertise. These services include, but are not limited to:
Implementation of climate resilience, clean energy or other projects that help communities;
Direct support for federal funding compliance or investigations for projects or organizations, including maintaining records needed for potential litigation;
Drafting and finalizing community benefits agreements or ordinances that require them;
Understanding permitting processes, requirements, and opportunities for intervention;
Questions regarding 501(c)(3) status; and
Intervention in utility commission proceedings.
Applications are assessed on a rolling basis. For questions or help with your application, please reach out to us at GECC@L4GG.org.
