Jillian Blanchard, Vice President of Climate Change & Environmental Justice at Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG), issued the following statement in reaction to the Trump administration’s unlawful termination of $7 billion in Solar for All (SFA) Grants:
““Yesterday’s announcement by the Environmental Protection Agency to cancel the $7 billion “Solar for All” grant program is a grave betrayal of public trust and a clear attack on the planet, economic justice, and American people. This $7 billion initiative, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, was designed to support energy dominance in America and reduce costs for everyday people. The entire country has been affected by this announcement and will now face higher electricity bills.””
“The decision to strip away a critical tool for reducing energy costs, is unlawful. The termination letters are based on a claim that the One Big Beautiful Bill rescinded legally obligated grants under Solar for All, which is patently false and legally unsupportable. Congress never intended for Solar for All to be terminated by H.R. 1 as indicated clearly by the Congressional Record during the passage of the bill and by statements made by Senators on both sides of the aisle. Moreover, each of the Solar for All grant awards contain terms and conditions that do not allow for these kinds of unilateral terminations based on the whims of a new executive branch. The termination of Solar for All grants is unacceptable and we will see this administration in court.
Today’s action continues to show us that this Administration will prioritize short sighted political agendas over the well being of American families and the health of our planet. Today’s action will have devastating consequences from halting job creation and stalling progress on climate goals to denying hundreds of thousands of American households the chance to lower their energy bills and build a more resilient future. We condemn this reckless move and continue to call on all who believe in a just and equitable society to stand with us and demand accountability.”
